Regulatory Landscape
New Zealand's phased approach to eliminating single-use plastics
Regulatory Note
New Zealand's single-use plastic regulations are evolving. Compostable bioplastics may be treated differently from conventional plastics. We recommend confirming current requirements with NZ Ministry for the Environment before import.
Phase 1 — PLA single-use cups/lids, polystyrene food packaging banned
Phase 2 — Single-use plastic straws, cutlery, produce bags banned
Phase 3 — All remaining single-use plastic food packaging to be phased out
